Gemma Tinney – 2017 Australian National Eventing Champion

Gemma Tinney and Annapurna have added the Australian National Champion title to that of the Australian Young Rider title won in Adelaide

The name Tinney is synonymous with Australian eventing champions but a new name was added at Equestriad in Camden when Gemma Tinney riding John and Jane Pittard’s Annapurna became the 2017 Australian National Champion. Gemma, third after the dressage, took the win on a score of 61.50 with a double clear showjumping round and a clear cross country ride that incurred just 14.8 time penalties in the Paul Pace Country CIC3*

Victoria’s Katja Weimann moved into second place (63.80) on BP Cosmopolitan, 11th after the dressage, also with a clear showjumping round and 10.4 time penalties while Megan Jones and Kirby Park Impress took third (68) when Tim Boland, leading after the first two phases withdrew GV Billy Elliott

No-one made the time on the cross country in this class but Andrew Cooper posted the best three times on his horses to finish fourth on Evergem Perfection, fifth on Reduction and sixth on Tasman Park Ovation

Andrew Barnett also added another important 2* title to his Adelaide win last year, taking the The Equine Welfare Fund CIC2* on APH Sparky (55.10) ahead of Heath Ryan riding Wimborne Constable (55.30) and Western Australia’s Shenae Lowings on Venture Sky High (59.40)

The Shearer Contracting CIC1*A was won by Niki Rose on Glenorchy South Park (48.60) and Soigne Jackson won the Bates Saddles CIC1*B on Ultimate Velocity (58.2)
