As well as the NSW State Championship classes at international level, Lynton Horse Trials at Goulburn featured three divisions of EvA95 level

Junior rider Jaimie Baker, local rider Nat Blundell and Victoria’s Madeline Wilson took home the EvA classes and we talked to each of them about their horses and their weekend in Goulburn

Jaimie was probably the rider who had travelled the furthest. Normally based in Western Australia, she had competed at the National Interschools competition the week before, finishing ninth in the EvA95 but at Lynton, she stormed ahead on cross country to win the EvA95 Junior on her dressage score of 18.70.

Even with that score, Jaimie had two riders ahead of her after dressage but Mathilda Seppelt on Fairview Metallica and Mia Gigliotti added penalties in one of the other phases to finish in third and second places while Jaimie remained on her dressage score riding Bling It To Me

Madeline Wilson and her partner Andrew Cooper both had a win on the weekend and are both well-known for bringing on talented young horses; Madi’s EvA95 Section B winner Cil Dara Dexter is only four years old but won this class on his dressage score of 19, over five penalties ahead of second placed Maddie Nelson on Pablo Cruize (24.20)

Third placed Jess Somerfield riding Arnage Royal Exhibit (24.70) featured in our Start Box video snippet on Facebook and their matching colours (sadly on this occasion Jess didn’t have her fingernails painted the same colour too) combined with the Peppermint Grove mascot on the breastplate have attracted a following. However our favourite colour combo of the day was Poppy Gorton riding Fots Farm I Spy, who finished fourth in the EvA Junior

“This horse is probably the best one I’ve bred” says Nat Blundell of Tarburra Puss N Boots, the EvA95 Section A winner, who she is hoping will be another 4* horse for her in the future

“If I can get him to focus, I think the sky is the limit”
