Rain stops play at Hunua New Zealand Eventing Championships

Last year rain set in and disrupted competition at the NZ HOY in March but that didn't stop the fun

New Zealand is hunkering down for a few days of wild, wet but warm weather ahead of a possible cyclone next week

The rain is already falling but the forecast is worse with gale force winds and heavy rain predicted for the next few days. Sadly this means that the Troy Wheeler Contracting Springbush Horse Trials at Hunua this weekend has been cancelled in the interests of safety, following severe weather forecasts for the Auckland region. The reluctant decision was made on Friday morning before competitors began their journey to the event.

Organiser and experienced rider Angela Lloyd said, “It has been a very tough decision but the safety of horses and riders is paramount. There has been a severe weather warning posted for our area and the risks are too high to proceed.”

This means the 2018 New Zealand Eventing Young Rider and Junior Rider Championships, which were to be contested at the event, will have to be rescheduled. A further notice will be released when a date for these national titles has been decided.
