A good day at the office for Clarke Johnstone

Puhinui International Horse Trials 2019 - find out more here

Clarke Johnstone started the day with a win in the CNC1*-L at the Puhinui International 3 Day Event in New Zealand and finished it with another flourish in the Auckland Council CCI4*-L

Clarke has had a quiet year with his top horse, Balmoral Sensation, who was injured at Aachen in 2018 and only came back to high level competition in October. At Wallaby Hill they took second place in the CCI4*-L before Clarke flew back to compete at Puhinui on three of his up and coming horses

The eight year old bay gelding Watermill Hadley won the Thompson Electrical CNC1*-L (more to come on that soon) but it was the Australian thoroughbred Aces High, by a well-known stallion Another Warrior, that took the honours in the CCI4*-L.

Monica Oakley put the pressure on by jumping a clear round on board Acrobat to maintain her second place (33.6) and Clarke, with another clear round on Deo Volente, claimed third place (42.8), moving up from 11th after an uncharacteristic dressage test which left them off the pace in the first phase

Monica also had a good weekend, winning the Gilmours CCI3*-L on board Artist as well as taking second in the CCI4* while young Ella Morshuis outjumped Olympian Jock Paget, producing a clear round to win the Veterinary Associates CCI2*-L on board World Famous
