A good start to the season for Chris Burton

As I write this update I am still recovering from, and wondering why, I thought driving 9 hours from Canberra to Scone for their event was a good idea … I blame eventing enthusiast Kate Mackenzie for that one. That said, it was a great event as always and I had a really good run on Maggie. I've only got two events left to do with her before I leave for England, which is quite sad. I am really going to miss her!

What is slightly more baffling to me than my decision to travel to Scone, was the news from England that Burto was taking four horses to a true 'one' day event. As a hobbyist I find riding one horse in one class over two days quite enough but it looked like being a busy day at Tweseldown for with four horses! Kinnordy Rivaldo, Haruzac, Underdiscussion and Holstein Park Leilani were loaded onto the truck (lorry) in the early hours of what could only have been a very dark and cold English morning, ready for the Open Intermediate at Tweseldown.

This was the opening event of the season after the horses had spent their first off-season coping with the English winter and lots of time in stables. All four horses did super dressage tests, all in the mid or early thirties apart from Underdiscussion who posted a mark of 26.8. They all went on to jump really well in the heavy going over a tough cross country course. It was a great start to the team who are looking forward to a big year!

That’s all from me just now ... I had better get back to work.
