An Update from Emma Scott

Emma and Mustang

Last weekend was a big one with both Mustang and Monyana competing at the Sydney Weekend of World Cups. Mustang was in the HSBC FEI WORLD CUP QUALIFIER CIC3*-W and Monyana competed in the BRIGHTON SADDLEWORLD CIC**

Mustang performed very well and was placed 7th in the 3*. I was really happy with his dressage test on the Friday night which was held in the indoor arena which had plenty of atmosphere but he did a lovely test, putting us in 6th place and in a good position for cross country day. Unfortunately, I was a bit slow on the cross-country with 10 time penalties but Mustang jumped really well around the track and he also show jumped fairly well with just one fence down. Overall I’m very happy with how he performed and how he was physically after the event. Of course, I would have like to have been placed higher (we were 5th at this event last year) but it’s great to have Mustang back on form and out there competing again. I’m really looking forward to riding Mustang in the Three Star class at the Melbourne Three Day Event at Werribee in June. Monyana had his first run back in since Adelaide and went fairly well, despite an average decision on my behalf in the cross country! That unfortunately got us 20 penalties so we didn’t end up placing but he did one of his nicest showjumping rounds so we finished on a good note. It was great that so many of my family were in attendance to cheer me on and I’m very pleased everyone went to such great lengths to support me.

Back at Bimbadeen Park, we are busy organising the Eventing Equestriad being held on 22nd and 23rd May, down the road at Camden. We’re all very excited about this event (Shane and Niki are very involved with the event) as we are trying to introduce a new audience to the sport. There will be entertainment, fun for the whole family including trade-stands, jumping castle and face painting and an opportunity to meet the riders for photos and autographs. I’m also very excited as Iffa is coming down a few days before the event to help me with my horses. It will be fantastic to have a good catch up and the help will go a long way to improving our performance for Melbourne. Monyana will be having his first 3* start at this event and hopefully will get a qualification for Sydney Three Day Event later in the year. That’s about all the news going on here - busy, busy, busy!

Hope to see lots of you at the Eventing Equestriad or at the Melbourne Three Day Event where I’m looking forward to signing lots of copies of the new book “An Eventful Life” to be launched which I’m lucky enough to be involved with! Maybe Mustang will have to do hoof prints as he’s a celebrity too! See you all then!
