The equestrian sport of show jumping

The FEI World Equestrian Games, created in 1990 are held every four years and are by far the largest equestrian event. In 2014, the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy will be host to 8 World Championships, one of which is Show Jumping

France’s number one discipline, the rider and horse must clear a course of obstacles in a given time without knocking them down. Time or point penalties are incurred in the case of a refusal, of a fall or if the obstacles are knocked down. This discipline requires the rider and his/her horse to be in complete harmony with each other as a number of factors such as impulsion , speed, trajectory and the number and length of strides should all be combined to guarantee a faultless round.

The WEG competition involves Team and Individual Competitions which conclude in a Final 4 round where the top four riders show their skill by riding each other’s horses

Competition dates;   Monday 1st Sept – Sunday 7th September

Location; D’Ornano stadium, Caen
