Michael Jung misses out on the trifecta in France

Riding a great clear round on the overnight leader Leopin FST Michael Jung held onto his lead to win the individual title at Fontainebleau CICO3*, France on a score of 39.4. It was an impressive performance from a combination who have clocked up several winning performances, notably the CIC3*-W at Strzegom last year. Another clear round from La Biosthetique-Sam FB (pictured above) saw Michael pick up 2nd prize but when his third ride of the day, Weidezaunprofi’s River of Joy, took two rails down it was the turn of Australian Clayton Fredericks to show off just what he could do.

A classic clear round left a very happy Clayton in 3rd place riding Bendigo, (pictured below) while two mistakes with Dunges Laurent Rose, saw them drop down the leader board to finish 8th. Lucinda Fredericks was one of 11 clear rounds of the 48 starters in show jumping and this pulled her from 10th overnight to overall 6th.

With Fontainebleau providing the inaugural FEI Nations Cup it was a clear win for Germany, with The Netherlands finishing 2nd and France 3rd. The next leg of the FEI Nations Cup will be held at Houghton Hall, Norfolk, England May 24th-27th.

An Eventful Life caught up with Di and Bob Schaeffer at Wandin Park CIC on Sunday and we’re pleased to report that, although Wendy and Dancer parted company on the cross country course at Fontainebleau, both horse and rider are reported to be fine.

Di says that Wendy told her she saw a holding stride to the fence in question but Dancer thought differently and took a leap, which bounced Wendy right out of the saddle. Dancer didn’t fall at all and Wendy is confident he’ll be fine although, obviously Wendy is a bit cross with herself and sorry to have let the team down.

However, as we all know, eventing is a tough gig and as they say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going! Wendy will now take Dancer to compete in the Advanced class at Weston Park in Shropshire on April 14th & 15th before competing at Badminton on May 3rd – 7th
