A day in the life of a Cambox helmet cam

Meet Sarah Hudson and the gorgeous Cash, winners of our September 5* Member competition prize, the Cambox ISI3 helmet video camera.  We were lucky enough to get some awesome footage and feedback from Sarah on the Cambox ISI3…

How easy is the Cambox to setup, and what do you think of the footage quality?

Cambox was really easy to figure out.  The unboxing uncovered a little instruction leaflet and, as there are few buttons on the camera itself, it was quite simple to understand.

Not much is required to set it up, but I made the mistake of attaching it to the peak of my XC hat cover. This meant that my riding was a little bouncy, as the peak flapped about!  I sourced some more Velcro tape though, and then attached it to my solid-peaked helmet as well, and the footage was much steadier.

Cash helped with the unboxing too ....

What has been the best learning/new technique you’ve been able to apply from the footage?

The footage definitely helped me realised that I need to scream less!  I wore my Cambox first during team cross country, and it was really interesting to be able to see how straight I would come into fences, or the moments where Cash would be dropping out through his shoulder or overbending.  We don’t often recognise these little nuances, because we’re busy riding and focusing, but watching it back was really interesting to be able to analyse my ride.

Top 3 places you’ve ridden with the Cambox so far (and ‘my field’ is a legitimate answer!)?

So far, my Cambox has ventured to Team XC at Helen Bell Equestrian, and around my yard and arena.  As we’re in the middle of a pandemic, the option to use my Cambox away from home has been limited, but I’ve got big plans for 2021!

Whose footage (OK apart from your own), and around which course, would you REALLY like to watch?

I’d love to watch Laura Collett’s footage on London 52 around Badminton.  That horse is insane, and feeling like I was coming along for that ride would be exhilarating.

Why would you recommend the Cambox?

I like that the Cambox is discrete on your helmet, meaning if you fell off you’re unlikely to break or damage it, as it’s safe beneath the peak, compared to other cameras that sit out on the top of your helmet.  I also like that it comes in a bunch of different colours, because it doesn’t offend my exceptional cross country ‘matchy-matchy’ outfit.

Most of all, it’s easy to use, the footage is great quality, and I can share my rides with everyone!
