Ewan Kellett at Tonimbuk

The cross country action will be more focussed around the water jump with a new start and finish this year

With the purchase of the Tonimbuk Equestrian Centre in 2014 by Hanson Quarry, the future of the International Horse Trials held there was looking dim. However, with an enthusiatic committee and the support of the large company, there are plans in place for the running of the event for many years to come.

Last year Ewan Kellett took over the reins from Wayne Copping as cross country course designer and he tells us of changes in place for this year, including a new Start and Finish area. In his turn Ewan is handing over the reins at another top Victorian venue, Wandin Park, to New Zealand course designer Tich Massey and explains why it is good for competitors and events to have a change of face from time to time

Ewan is moving further afield himself with an exciting new project in Japan later in the year and, if you think the 3* classes are small in Australia, you have to admire the Japanese for creating a course for one competitor. However, as they say, build it and they will come!
