Barbury Castle Estate to be sold

Nigel Bunter and his wife Penny have made the decision to sell the Barbury Castle Estate which has been home to the Barbury Castle International Horse Trials for the past 11 years

The Barbury Castle Estate, which comprises 2000 acres of farmland, woodland and downland just outside Marlborough in Wiltshire, first ran an event in 2005 and since then it has grown to be one of the highlights of the British Eventing calendar.  It became well known as a venue popular with spectators, able to see much of the cross country course on the historical site which lies within the Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

The event also became synonymous with one of its local heroes – Andrew Nicholson and Rosemary Barlow’s grey horse Avebury, who was put to sleep on September 6th this year. Together they won the event four times from 2011 to 2015 and in 2016 Andrew took the win on another of his horses, Nereo

British Eventing has said that the Barbury Castle event will remain on the fixture for 2017 while the future of the Estate is settled however alternative fixtures are being sought
