Wednesday 25th August

It’s a bumper Blair with record entries and fabulous weather forecast for the Scottish Highlands

The 2021 Land Rover Blair Castle International Horse Trials got underway on Wednesday with the first horse inspection for the three long-format international eventing classes (CCI4*-L, CCI3*-L and CCI2*-L)

Only one horse failed the first horse inspection, Kate Walls’ Cooley Lands, who was entered in the CC3*-L, while James Rushbrooke and Laura Landale won the Best Dressed prizes at the first horse inspection, sponsored by jewellery company HiHo Silver.

Kirsty Chabert and Classic VI at Bicton International in June

First to trot up today in the Hi Ho Silver sponsored Horse Inspection, contesting the Two Star, was Kirsty Chabert with Opposition Bolero.

Kirsty will be busy this weekend with six horses across the classes this week, including Classic VI in the CCI4*-S who finished fourth at Bicton CCI4-L and has just been named on the British squad for Aachen as well as having been nominated among the British entries for the European Championships in September. A new face at Championship level to keep an eye on!

The CCI4*-S is also packed with very well-known big names and we’ll be talking more about (and with) them in the coming days but a notable one is of course the last winner here, France’s Astier Nicolas who has brought both the 2019 Blair winner Babylon De Gamma and the 2017 Mondial Du Lion Young Horse Champion, Alertamalib’Or.

They will be competing against the winner of the 6 Year Old Championship at le Lion in the same year – Izzy Taylor’s Monkeying Around – so it will be an interesting battle of World Young Horse Champions

Young Horse Champions Astier Nicolas' Alertamalib'Or and Izzy Taylor's Monkeying Around are going head to head at Blair

The new foundation-level CCI1* has attracted a massive number of entries and the very popular Scottish Grassroots Eventing Festival, with national championship classes at BE100 and BE90 level, will be taking place alongside the International competitions

Tickets are still available to purchase for Land Rover Blair Castle Horse Trials, including for Saturday’s bumper day of cross-country action. There is no more capacity in either the campsite or the members marquee. Tickets can be purchased through the Blair Castle website – there will be no tickets on the gate.

For those not lucky enough to be there, we’ll be bringing you daily leader updates here with full reports in our Member-Only articles

And don't forget to stay tuned to our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for video snippets and more during the weekend ... !
