Tim Price and Pats Jester win CCI3 Star at Blair

The horse that no-one has paid much attention to in the past came up trumps for Tim Price on Sunday at the Land Rover Blair Castle International Horse Trials

Pats Jester, last year’s 3* winner at Ballindenisk, had a couple of falls earlier in the year and was dropped down to 2* at Barbury but has come back strongly with a win in the CCI3* at Blair. Tim and Jonelle took their horses down to Spain at the start of the season for some show jumping in the sun and Pats Jester certainly looked very comfortable over the coloured poles, jumping a clear round although the Scottish Highland weather conditions could not have been any more different to those of sunny Spain

“I just like him a lot for the way he approaches the job” says Tim “He just quietly achieves, gives me what I ask for and that consistency is what gives you the results”

Tim and Pats Jester were third after the dressage and cross country but when both Tom McEwen on Strike Smartly and Izzy Taylor on Director General had one rail apiece, Tim emerged the winner on 28.5, Tom took second and fourth on Strike Smartly (30.90) and Figaro Van Het Broekxhof (36.60) and Izzy was third (31.7)

Tim and Katie Magee on Dollarney, who finished in sixth place, were the only two riders in the top ten to jump clear rounds and Tom McEwen was rueing the wavy plank fence which dropped for both of his horses “I just couldn’t jump planks today,” rued Tom “I can’t fault either horse though.”

Although Director General picked up four penalties in the show jumping, this is a horse Izzy is excited about for next season and beyond “He had a fence down but that can happen to any good horse. He’s still got a lot to learn but he’s got a phenomenal stride and was fantastic across country yesterday”
