Germany takes Nations Cup at Strzegom

      Germany, the Netherlands and Poland on the podium at Strzegom Nations Cup

 

Germany has taken the second leg of the FEI Nations Cup in eventing, winning both the team and individual classification, at Strzegom in Poland.

The German team moved into the winning spot after the final phase of cross-country on Saturday afternoon, leaving the previous leaders, the Netherlands, in the second place.

Ingrid Klimke with SAP Asha P had the best result for the team that also included Andreas Dibowski with FRH Corrida, Beeke Jankowski with Tiberius 20 and Heike Jahncke with Mighty Spring.

Ingrid, the current European champion also won the class individually. She took the lead with the 16-year-old gelding SAP Hale Bob after dressage and won the class despite rolling a pole in the show jumping and incurring time penalties on cross-country.

The Dutch team of Merel Blom with Ceda N.O.P, Jordy Wilken with Burry Spirit, Raf Kooremans with Dimitri N.O.P and Laura Hoogeven with Wicro Quibus were the overnight leaders but eventually ended up in the silver medal winning position. The best result for the Dutch team riders and third place individually belonged to Merel Blom.

The home team of Poland, Mateusz Kiempa with Lassban Radovix, Joanna Pawlak with Fantastuc Frieda, Jan Kamiński with Senior and Michał Hycki with Moonshine, took third place. The best result among them belonged to Mateusz Kiempa, who finished fourth in the individual classification. He was in second place after dressage and jumping, but points for time on the cross-country course meant he missed out on the podium.

“I’m happy with my performance, but I think that we should firstly look at the team score – everyone did very well, and I think we should all be pleased about it” said Kiempa after the prizegiving ceremony.

New Zealand’s Tim Price and Falco had two stops to finish the competition on a score of 95.4 in 24th place

 

Nations Cup classification:

1st: Germany - 105,90

2nd: Netherlands - 108,30

3rd: Poland - 136,80

CCI4*L

Saturday was also cross-country day for the long format classes where a different Price now leads. Jonelle Price now has the top position with Grappa Nera, going double clear in the cross country and taking the lead away from her husband Tim.

Jonelle remains on her dressage score of 30.5 penalty points while Japanese rider Yoshiaki Oiwa and Tullyoran Cruiser JRA were the only other combination to produce a cross country round clear and inside time combination in the 10-strong field to move into second place on 33.8.

Jonelle is also in third place, having added 6.4 time penalties aboard McClaren while Tim and Wesko are now in fourth place, having added time penalties to finish on 38.7.

Tim was also riding Spartaco in this class of just 10 riders – they had a stop early in the course to add both jump and time penalties to move to eighth on 79.8.

The current number one in the CCI3*-L class is Julia Mestern from Germany with Monarts Masterpiece, and the leader in the CCI2*-L is Dutch rider Merel Blom with Corminta vom Gwick.

Saturday’s cross-country was the last trial of the CCI1* Intro, where the winner was Sophie Leube (GER) with Skyjacker 3.
