Sunday morning show jumping at Burghley

Ros Canter and Allstar B jump clear on the final day

Only two riders jumped clear in the morning session – New Zealand’s Tim Price on his less experienced horse Bango to finish on 98.70 and Ros Canter riding AllStar B finishing on 100.2. Ros was a little disappointed with herself yesterday for picking up 20 penalties due to crossing her tracks but on reflection and, after watching the other cross country rounds, she decided that their ride wasn’t so bad after all! Ros had a busy weekend as she also picked up several prizes in the Dubarry Young Event Horse

Of course Mr Potts is gorgeous!

The last to ride this morning was Louise Harwood on Mr Potts, the big 14 year old gelding bred by Louise’s mum Jackie Skelton and delivered as a foal by the Australian vet Graham Potts (hence the name). Louise is partnered with Chris Burton in the International Pairs Challenge whereby the top 15 British riders are partnered with the top 15 ‘Rest of World’ riders. The pair’s scores are added together, with Chris and Louise currently in the lead

Abigail Boulton took a bit of a tumble from Tiltson Tic Toc in the warm up for this morning’s show jumping but nothing was hurt apart from a bit of pride!

“At least I didn’t do it in the big arena!” laughed Abigail, who was completing her second Burghley. She was a bit disappointed with 12 jumping penalties this morning but hopes to be back for another try next year on her 14 year old bay gelding

Charlotte Brear was another rider having her second completion at Burghley on Manor Missile. Charlotte, an amateur rider who works in her family’s engineering company in Leeds, was surprised when Manor Missile stopped dead at the first jump on course today

“He never really jumps well until we get into the arena then he usually just lights up and gets on with the job. Today, he still felt a bit flat as we approached the first fence and just didn’t seem to see it. I thought about retiring but then decided to keep going and I hunted him around a bit – as soon as I did that he started to jump the way he normally does because he can jump well”

The top 24 jump this afternoon so stay tuned ...........
