The Nolan family know eventing. During the past 40 years Jenny Noland and her son Tim have grown the three events run by SEES – South of England (1), Eridge and South of England International - to be three of the most popular events in this part of the world. While Jenny and Tim are the family members you will see running the event, another family member, Pippa Funnell, is also normally in attendance, equally busy riding her horses and contributing the all-important rider’s feedback

Pippa isn’t the only leading rider who heads to South of England (1), an event used by many of the top eventing riders in their preparation for Badminton Horse Trials a few weeks later with the Open Intermediate and Advanced Intermediate providing good early season tests.

For the lower levels, there are three separate tracks for BE100, Novice and Open with the BE100 and Novice courses suitable for young horses. The cross country course, designed by Scott Brickell, provides a good variety of well-built solid fences and runs over the South of England Showground and adjoining farmland

      Let's hope it's barbecue weather!

The Showground provides some of the best facilities for any event with the main building, the Norfolk Pavilion, providing an indoor central focus for the competition with its bar, food and seating area being the place to gather at lunch or after the event (particularly for the many volunteers who enjoy a tipple at the end of day!). Truck parking facilities on permanent surfaces make life easier when the weather is inclement and permanent stabling is also available on site

The competition is part of the South East Eventers League points table and also includes a British Intermediate Championship Qualifier.

The South of England (1) was sadly cancelled in 2018 due to weather conditions but let’s hope we get the sunshine back this year and that everyone has as good a ride as Pippa Funnell and Sandman 7, winners of the Advanced Intermediate class in 2017
