Aldon International Horse Trials takes place in the spring and autumn and each competition offers three days of thrilling equestrian sport in the picturesque Somerset countryside near Yeovil

With over 800 horse and rider combinations applying to compete at the October event, a large number were balloted due to classes being oversubscribed. The shorter daylight hours mean that entries have to be limited and this year Storm Brian threw in some wayward weather

On Friday Sam Griffiths won the Open Intermediate on Paulank Brockagh, his second win since back in the saddle and a great warm-up for the CCI4* at Les Etoiles de Pau

Alex Bragg had a good day at the office with wins on Killahurler Connect and King of the Mill in two Novice sections and Lissa Green was delighted to not only win the Novice Section F on The Snoop Troop's Corraggio Z but also a cross country video

“I have 11 owners but only one could make it so they’ll be thrilled!”

Lissa’s mum Lucinda was also riding her Australian horse Riddick VEH in this class to finish fourth, but was competing HC. Many will remember Riddick as the mount of Amanda Ross and Emily McQueen but Lucinda is now enjoying piloting him around in the UK (lucky Riddick!)

An athletic Goteus S wins the CICYH1* Section L ridden by Harry Harding

The weather defeated us on Saturday with the high gusts of wind blowing tripods over so we decided to pull the plug on filming – sorry! However the BE100 and CCI1* riders continued on with Saffron Cresswell on Quality Rose taking the win in the 1* on their dressage score of 41.6

The CIC2* on Sunday was won by the current British U21 Champion, Felicity Collins on Just Amazing III, also on their dressage score, ahead of Xanthe Goldsack on Hi Tech (49.2) and Bill Levett on Piltown Colours (49.5), having a good end to their season, adding this ribbon to  their win at Oasby the week before
