Two of the BE100 winners at Horseheath Horse Trials on Saturday were celebrating not just a win but a win at their first try at this level

A recent convert to eventing Serena Kullich has only been riding her winning horse In The Darco for a few weeks before taking out the BE100 Open Section D (more to come about Serena soon) but, while Serena seems set for a professional riding career, Nicola Hughes, the winner of the BE100 Section B is an amateur rider who works full time and fits her riding in as she can

However, like Serena, Nicola won her class today at her first attempt at this level on Rathmores Little Artist. They have only had one start previously this year at BE90 level at Frickley Park where they had a quiet run around but today they put in a strong performance, starting with a dressage score of 31 and adding nothing to it during the rest of the day

Phillipa Ward was the previous rider of Rathmores Little Artist and she also nearly had a win in the BE100 Section A. Phillipa finished second on a score of 31.30 riding Lisbane Skyboy while Summer Nicholls riding Alfie XXVI won the class on 31.3 and Tara Murphy on Sunhill Beauty finished third with a score of 32

Mary Edmundson on Tashkaldou took the BE100 Section C on their dressage score of 25.5 when the dressage leader Katie Hale and Claydon Robinia dropped a rail in the show jumping. Katie started with an impressive dressage score of 22 and added nothing in the cross country but the four show jumping faults were expensive and dropped her to second place. Sophie Reason and Heartstopper finished third in this class on a score of 27
