Blyth Tait - budding course designer at Burgham

Blyth admitted to being a tiny bit nervous about designing all of the courses, including CNC, at Northland but designing the BE90/100 will be a breeze at Burgham now!

“This is a direction I’d like to go in, just quietly while I’m still riding, but later on I’d like to try and do a bit more” said Blyth Tait when  we spoke to him at Puhinui Horse Trials about his burgeoning career in cross country course design

Blyth is one of a few top class riders who at the moment are moving into this sphere and it can only be good for the sport. Stuart Tinney and Shane Rose are actively involved in cross country course design in Australia and Blyth is now setting a trend by designing courses in both hemispheres

In New Zealand for the UK winter off-season, Blyth was busy last weekend as the course designer for the Northland Horse Trials near Auckland. Soon after he jumped on a plane and on his return to the UK will not only be getting back into the saddle but will also be designing some of the courses at Burgham International

Burgham is Northumberland’s only international event and runs twice a year in March and July. The early season event sponsored by Owen Pugh runs from 24th – 26th March includes CIC3* and CIC2* classes with courses designed by David Evans while Blyth will be designing the BE90 and BE100 courses. The event is also part of the 2017 Shearwater Insurance Tri-Star Grand Slam with £50,000 up for grabs

We’re very excited about our first visit to Burgham in March when we’ll be filming all competitors on David and Blyth’s cross country courses. Don’t forget to smile at the camera!
