Over 500 competitors will be heading to one of the loveliest eventing venues in the south of England at Chilham Castle this weekend. Let’s hope that it stays as a British Eventing venue in the future as the Jacobean manor, with historical ties stretching back much further, and its surrounding 300 acres is up for sale. Stuart and Tessa Wheeler, who bought the Castle in 2002, were strong supporters of the event held on their property but sadly Tessa died in late 2016 and Stuart passed away in July 2020.

The venue normally hosts two events a year but both Chilham (1) and (2) were cancelled in 2020 so it will be lovely to be back filming all competitors on cross country in 2021. This weekend sees jam packed BE80(T) and BE90 classes on Saturday and the BE100 and Novice classes running on Sunday

British Olympian Tina Cook is a frequent competitor at Chilham and she is back again in 2021, as is her daughter Isabelle and Isabelle’s godmother, Pippa Funnell on one of her youngsters, Billy High Hopes, in the BE100

Past winners here, Ireland’s Sacha Hourigan and France’s Gaspard Maksud are competing across the classes and we’ve spotted a couple of Aussies on the entry list in Brook Staples and Ben Leathers

We’ll also be watching out for India Wishart, one of the lucky riders involved with #TeamWindrush at the Windrush Foundation, who is competing in the top class, the Open Novice on Cooley Guinness, a combination coming off a win at Aston Le Walls (X) last weekend on their dressage score of 23.5.

We'll have a full wrap-up next week and don't forget to stay tuned to our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for video snippets and more during the weekend .....
