Keeping track of Piggy French’s rides and wins during competition at the Fairfax & Favor Rockingham International Horse Trials was a bit like herding sheep – every time you thought you had a handle on it, another top result popped up

Piggy was almost embarrassed about the number of times she mounted the presentation stage but, as she says in our interview below, you have to take the good times when they come along in eventing

“It’s crazy but you just enjoy it while it lasts ……. It’s fantastic because the horses are feeling very good, so you ride the wave while you’ve got it. I’m very aware that next time out I might fall at the first fence or have three horses lame …… There’s nothing different happening, it’s obviously just the crest of a wave”

On Sunday Piggy added several wins and placings (a win in the Advanced Intermediate on Cooley Monsoon and third on Carnival March, a win in the Open Intermediate on Graf Cavalier and second place on Castletown Clover) to those already taken in the International classes on Saturday and very nearly added the Loomes Championship to it.

Piggy may not have won the valuable handmade Robert Loomes watch which ‘was a bit of an incentive’ and went to Austin O’Connor at the 11th hour, however it made for a very exciting finish for the spectators and some mathematical puzzles for Piggy …..
