A win at Rockingham for James Avery

James Avery and Optimus Prime Time, also competing in the CIC2*

"I like Rockingham" says James Avery and he has good reason.

Last year he finished fourth in the CIC1* on Cadillac and today he took his first international win since moving to Joe Giannamore’s stables and taking over some of the horses previously competed by Jock Paget. The nine year old Holsteiner gelding Zazu was equal first on 40.2 with David Doel’s Shannondale Quest after the dressage but David withdrew while James continued to jump double clear and add just 1.6 time penalties on cross country

Only two riders made the time on the cross country but Piggy French and Jump Jet II came close with just 0.4 time penalties for second place and Toshiyuki Tanaka, who is really on a roll at the moment, finished third on Balla Star Bay

We talked to James about his win at Rockingham and how he was settling into Jock Paget’s ‘shoes’
