Following the recent announcement that Paris and Los Angeles, the only two cities bidding for the 2024 Olympic Games, had accepted a tripartite agreement the IOC has now confirmed that Los Angeles will be nominated as the host city in 2028 while Paris will host the 2024 Olympic Games.
As part of the solution, the IOC will make contributions to the Los Angeles Organising Committee representing an overall estimated value of USD 1.8 billion to increase participation and access to youth sports programmes in the City of Los Angeles in the years leading up to the Games.
The candidatures will be put forward to the IOC Session in Lima in September for ratification but Paris is now gearing up at full speed for the 2024 Olympic Games.
While many of the sporting venues will be located in central Paris, the equestrian events are set to take place at the magnificent Palace of Versailles approximately 25 km from the centre of the city. Fittingly Paris was the venue for the first ever equestrian events to be included in the Olympic programme during the 1900 Summer Olympics when five equestrian events were contested.
FEI representatives have already visited the equestrian locations for both events
“We have visited the equestrian venues at Paris and Los Angeles and we’re really excited to know that they will be hosting the next two editions of the Games after Tokyo 2020, as they both offer a fantastic opportunity to showcase our sport. We will have an iconic venue in Paris, as equestrian will be staged in the grounds of Versailles, with the chateau as a truly spectacular backdrop not only for the stadium, but also for the cross country. And for Los Angeles we will be in the beautiful Sepulveda Basin, just 15 minutes from the Athletes Village, on the site of an existing golf course.
