Oasby (1) Preview

An Eventful Life will be filming all competitors on cross country at Oasby (1)

Oasby (1) in Lincolnshire is set and ready to welcome riders having their first hit out of the year. Of course it wasn’t meant to be our first event of 2018 but the Beast From The East that brought the UK to a standstill last week and caused the cancellation of all of the first week’s eventing in the UK has passed on by, the snow has cleared and Oasby (1) is going to be humming from Thursday until Sunday

The ground is in good condition with just a few patches here and there but Stuart Buntine and his crew have done a good job to make sure everything is as good as it can be for the riders previously entered and those who made a frantic last minute changes to try and get a run after cancellations last weekend.

Oasby (1) is not an official International event but you certainly wouldn’t know it from the entry list with Russia, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and China just a few of the countries represented. There are three sections of Open Intermediate and some of the top riders competing are Izzy Taylor, Bill Levett, Paul Tapner, Ros Canter, Caroline Powell, Alex Hua Tian, Piggy French, Nicola Wilson and Oliver Townend

Oliver is of course not riding just one horse – he has 15 entered across the classes and we have a feeling we’ll be seeing a few winning videos of him next week! Piggy French is also going to be busy with eight horses including Jennifer Saunders’ lovely Cooley Monsoon that she won the Novice on last year and her WEG hopeful mount that was second at Burghley last year, Vanir Kamira

TA Alec Lochore sets out from the An Eventful Life Start Box to check the course at Oasby (1)

This event is also the first of the Tri-Star Eventing Series put together by Alec Lochore of Musketeer Event Management and Stuart Buntine of Bede Events. The Series not only gives competitors at high levels to win a wad of money in the Tri-Star Grand Slam but also encourages competitors all down the line with an Accumulator in the Saracen Intermediate, Fairfax Saddles Novice and Saracen Grass Roots leagues

Last year’s winner of the Saracen Grass Roots League, Sophia Icke & Think Tank Think, specifically targeted the Series events and certainly reaped the rewards winning feed, clothing, equipment, and training with 3 Saracen Horse Feeds ambassadors. They are back at Oasby (1) this year, no doubt keen to replicate their success in 2017!

We’ll be filming competitors on cross country each day so keep an eye on our social media sites for XCVideo snippets and we’re hoping for some fun ‘Eventful Moments’ to emerge during the four days. Next week we’ll have our event wrap up and of course, some fabulous footage from the event so don't forget to smile at the camera!
