Ros Canter and Broadstone Lion Man have been second (at Osberton 1) and third (at Scone Palace) at CCI3* level this year and they would no doubt love to add a win to that to finish off the year at Osberton (2) International Horse Trials.
They have started in a very good position, leading the way in the Rathbones CCI3*-L after two days of dressage on a score of 24.8, ahead of Emma Lawton riding Dinarthall Sea King, another Friday rider who slotted into second place (26.3).
The overnight leader Samantha Brown riding Spirit LSS now sits in third place (27.1) in a very tight contest, with the top ten split by just two penalties, ahead of Saturday’s cross country.
“I’m delighted with him, he did the CCI3*-L at Scone and did a good test there too, but he hasn’t done many three-days, so we wanted to get him a bit fitter, and give him another opportunity to do a three-long this year before he steps up next year” said Ros of the calm ‘lion’
“He’s just really easy, very, very, laid back and probably quite unusual in that that we have to rev him up rather than the other way round. I had to be brave and do approximately just eight mins of work before I went in for my test with him, because he’s generally very happy not doing a lot. He was really light and bright for that small amount of time and he’s just generally very easy and you ask him and he does it”
There is plenty to do on the Stuart Buntine designed track that lies ahead, says Ros.
“It’s decent, really good questions, lovely galloping to start with but big all the way round, so definitely plenty to jump. But I think if you present your horse right and they’re enjoying the job then it should all come out nicely.”
No-one could topple Thursday’s leaders in the Arena Saddles CCI2*-L with Olivia Roberts riding Fintra CJ and the USA’s Sydney Soloman riding Chacco San, both on a score of 29.4, remaining on top.
But it seems that shared scores are the theme of this class with Imogen King riding Camaro joining Will Rawlin and Mackenzy in third place on a score of 30.1. Three further riders, Dani Stewart-Richardson riding Oblenskys Heartbreaker, Harry Dzenis riding Arkadium and Lily Brennan riding Corfu also all sit on 31.8 in equal fifth place.
The Project Pony supported CCIP2*-L, a long format two star dedicated for ponies, produced just two sub-thirty scores across the class of nineteen.
Gracie Cowley riding Diamant De La Cour, winners of the CCIP2* at the Bishop Burton Festival of Youth, leads the way here after dressage on a score of 28.3 ahead of Eva Bryant riding Diego De St Georges (29.6) closely followed by Emily Jopp with Uptons Deli Carousel (31.3)
The ponies will round out Saturday’s cross-country day with competition scheduled to start mid-afternoon.
Seven combinations moved ahead of Thursday’s leader in the Animalintex CCI1* with Gareth Warburton riding Justice Prevails now leading the pack on a score 27.5 ahead of Scottish-based New Zealander Annie Broad riding Comme Nicola Z on 27.9 and Oscar Fitzgerald riding Excelsior.
Annie is on a bit of a roll here, also holding fifth place in this class on Gemini Firebird while Thursday’s leader, West Yorkshire’s Kristina Hall-Jackson is now in equal eighth place as this section head into the showjumping on Saturday morning.
Laura Erith makes a happy return to the Osberton Agria Amateur BE105 to take the lead with her own Kilbunny Eisteach on a score of 27.9, ahead of Anton Turnwald riding Treenhill Archimedes and Jennie Housley riding Caunton Rubi Royale.
The BE105 also plays host to the grand finale of the Agria 100 League, currently led by Katy Treharne and Welcome Glory who are competing here and in 30th place after dressage, offering end of season bonus points for the League competitors.
Pony Club Nations Cup
England Blue lead the way in the Pony Club Nations Cup, across both the PC105 and PC110 classifications.
Isabella Moreton and Bannow Bee Silver Detroit take the first phase lead in the Pony Club Nations Cup 105 on a score of 26.4. Together they help the England team to a 12-point lead ahead of the jumping phases.
Emily Lawson and Faerlie Frisky given themselves a fence in hand over the rest of field following their 24.3 dressage.
