Samantha Brown and Spirit LSS started the season well with a win in the Intermediate Novice at Larkhill Horse Trials in April, more recently were runners-up in the CCI3*-L at NAF Hartpury International Horse Trials and now have a good chance of finishing their season on a high at the Aspen Cooling Osberton (2) International Horse Trials (1-4 October 2026).
Samantha and her 14-year-old Irish bred gelding lead the way in the Rathbones CCI3*-L after the first day of dressage with a score of 27.1, just pipping Emily King on board HG Woods (27.4) and Charlotte Donald riding Mr Grey (28.6). Tayla Mason riding EG Tiger Chilli was the only Kiwi combination in this class today, currently sitting in 44th place, with another New Zealander, Samantha Lissington and Australia’s Sammi Birch in the Friday morning dressage draw.
There are two current leaders of the Arena Saddles CCI2*-L with Olivia Roberts (GBR) riding Fintra CJ and the USA’s Sydney Solomon riding Chacco San, both on a score of 29.4.
Olivia, an amateur rider who competes just the one horse, Fintra CJ, was another runner-up at Hartpury, this time in the British Novice Restricted Championship while Sydney is, we believe, another of the overseas riders that has made Birch Equestrian a home away from home (and we have more from Sammi about that coming up soon). The two ladies lead the way ahead of Will Rawlin riding Mackenzy in third (30.1).
The anilmalintex CCI1*-S also began on Thursday with Kristina Hall-Jackson leading the way on board WSH Quality Venu while the Project Pony CCIP2*-S gets underway on Friday.
There are two Pony Club Nations Cup classes also running at Osberton (2) this weekend with Isabella Moreton riding Bannow Bee Silver Detroit on top of the PC-105NC while the PC110NC starts tomorrow, alongside BE105 Amateur section.
