MARS Great Meadow International 2020

Marilyn Little and RF Scandalous lead the CCI4*-S

It was a dark and stormy day at the MARS Great Meadow International at The Plains, Virginia, USA …

There were originally 16 events scheduled in the USA at CCI4*-S level for 2020, but only seven remain on the calendar now with the MARS Great Meadow International this weekend being the first event since Red Hills in March

As if Covid-19 regulations are not enough to deal with, the weather gods intervened on Saturday when an afternoon thunderstorm caused a two-hour delay. With daylight running out, only 32 of the 68 CCI4*-S pairs were able to jump on Saturday while the remaining riders will show jump at 7:30 a.m. before cross-country starts at 9:00 a.m. for the CCI3*-S and CCI4*-S.

Dressage leaders Marilyn Little and RF Scandalous jumped clear and were inside the time so will hold onto their lead heading onto tomorrow’s David O’Connor-designed cross country course while Will Coleman and Off The Record, currently in second place, will now show jump in the morning

Kim Severson and the 13-year-old Cooley Cross Border also jumped a clear to remain on their dressage score of 22.1 in third place

The first CCI3*-L class to be run at this event completed on Saturday and was won by Sharon White and her own Claus 63, a seven-year-old Holsteiner gelding

Our full wrap-up report to come next week ....

      A very happy Sharon White!
