Rio second horse inspection

Can this man stop Chris Burton winning gold?

Ireland’s Jonty Evans needed his lucky shamrock jewellery this morning when his horse Cooley Rorkes Drift was sent to the holding box. Jonty, currently in 16th place after cross country was very relieved to be accepted by the Ground Jury on re-presenting as was Japan’s Yoshiaki Oiwa with the Duke of Cavan (currently 17th) and Phillip Dutton with Mighty Nice

Phillip is currently well within reach of an individual medal and had the USA fans in palpitations at the thought of losing another rider in this competition but he lived to fight another day, going in to the jumping phase in fifth place

The only individual horse withdrawn was Japan’s Just Chocolate ridden by Ryuzo Kitajima and all teams left in the competition are through

The first round of the show jumping for team medals starts at 10am Brazil time with the riders not riding for a team competing first followed by team riders in reverse order

In the afternoon session the individual medals will be contested
