Video: Rolex Kentucky leader Clark Montgomery

Home grown hero Clark Montgomery took and stayed in the lead on scoring the first sub-40 mark of the competition this morning. Clark on striking gelding Loughan Glen produced a stunning performance to put him in the lead after dressage at Rolex Kentucky

The overnight leader board going into tomorrow’s cross country has Clark Montgomery for the US on top, with Germany’s Michel Jung and fischerRocana FST in second, ahead of Kim Severson from America in third on Cooley Cross Border.

"Michael Jung rarely makes any mistakes so it's great toget ahead of him and it's up to me now" says Clark

Kentucky’s last home winner was Phillip Dutton way back in 2008; he’s in joint ninth on 44.8 with two of his three rides, Fernhill Fugitive and the 17-year-old Mr Medicott. The vastly experienced rider, a bronze medallist in Rio last year, has this to say about tomorrow’s cross-country, which starts at 10am local time: “You’ve got to keep thinking, not let the blood rush to the head and see how your horse handles the distance. It’s another great course from Derek (di Grazia, designer) and will sort everyone out.”

With rain having fallen overnight, severe thunderstorms forecast, showers and high humidity on cross country day it is going to be testing for all horses and riders with Britain's James Parker heading out first - ride times here
