Fires, floods and broken bones

Stuart (in his wheelchair) receiving his ENSW Award from visiting VIP Bettina Hoy

2020 has started with some challenges for Tinney Eventing but, luckily for us, much of the early season has been put on hold due to extreme weather conditions.

The February Sydney at SIEC event was postponed and our local show jumping show was cancelled due to floods so, if we were going to have to cope with human injuries this was a good time, if there is such a thing.

Some of you may know that Stuart sustained a broken foot, needing surgery after some not so athletic moves on Australia Day playing volleyball! The day after his surgery he received Eventing NSW 2019 Rider of the Year award (in a wheelchair) and we had the great opportunity to have a few days training with Bettina Hoy prior to the Awards Night

Stuart is now on the way to recovery and, all being well you will see him and his horses at Equestriad in April. However, just as we managed to get Stuart sorted, Karen’s mum Irene took a fall, breaking her hip and this injury will certainly take more recovery time sad

Despite the injury, Stuart managed to take a short trip to the UK for an Australia Eventing team forum,  coming home with a great, enthusiastic mindset for all the preparations needed to get selected for the Tokyo Games in August. Plus of course bottles of much-deserved gin for his suffering wife!!!

Calendar March/April 2020

With a ‘slow to nothing’ start in the calendar we have still been hard at work with our training. With Stuart out of action it’s been 'girl power' thanks to our trusty rider Tara Rogers, a fabulous help, Gemma and Karen filling the void (not forgetting DD). We also have managed to score a great new groom Courtney Foster who has slotted into Tinney Eventing really well, Thank- you to you all.

Our plans for selection will be:

  • Equestriad: 18th/19th April

  • SYD3DE 8th/9th/10th May

  • MELB3DE 5th/6th/7th June

for Elisabeth Brinton's Celebration plus Leporis while our other younger team of horses will compete with Tara Rogers and Gemma.
