While the Adelaide International CCI5* entries may attract the most attention as the feature class of the Adelaide Equestrian Festival, the Horseland CCI4*-S, Racing SA CCI3*-L and Bates Saddles Young Rider Championship will also be hotly contested and see past Champions in the mix.
Horseland CCI4*-S Hot Favourites
13 combinations come forward including one international entry from India’s Shashank Kataria riding Icaro LB, who is based in Victoria and aiming for a good result here to cement selection for the FEI Asian Championships later this year.
It’s hard to go past Shane Rose on Easy Turn, the CCI2* (now 3*) winner in 2018, as the hot favourite with the talented mare likely to be Shane’s World Championship ride next year.
But Cathryn Herbert’s Wimborne Constable is likely to give Shane a run for his money, Sophia Hill’s Tulara Baltango and Hannah Klep riding Tulara Chicouve have been on good form recently and Sam Woods, who came so close to winning the CCI3*-L here last year with SS Eight Count, will be out to finish on top.

Racing SA CCI3*-L and Bates Saddles Young Rider Championship
35 combinations are entered in the Racing SA CCI3*-L, which includes nine combinations also contesting the Bates Saddles Young Rider Championship.
The importance of the Young Rider Championship can be seen in the higher-level class entries with past winners, Sam Jeffree (2019) and Olivia Shore (2024) competing in the 5* and 4*-S this year. If the 2023 Young Rider Champion, Oliver Barrett had not retired his wonderful mare Sandhills Special, we’re pretty sure we’d be seeing him at higher levels too, but he is back in the 3* with his up-and-coming young horse Sandhills Briar.
As with the 5* and 4* classes, there is just one international entry in the 3*-L with Australian-based New Zealander Rory Hamilton entered for both the 3*-L and the Young Rider classification.
This is the biggest class and the one to kick off the action with their First Horse Inspection on Wednesday afternoon and dressage on Thursday. We'll be there to bring you all the updates and action!
