Bubby Upton on Cannavaro at Barefoot Retreats Burnham Market International (1) 2022
As the 2026 eventing season is set to begin, Bubby Upton has announced the retirement of Cannavaro (Joey) “Forever a team favourite and forever a champ in our eyes”.
Selected for Junior & Young Rider European Championships and Under 25 Champion, Cannavaro went on to win multiple 4*’s and finish top 10 at two CCI5*’s. In 2022 he won the Advanced at Burnham Market International before going on to finish 6th at Pau 5* that year.
“But his greatest accolade of all, and what I will forever remember him for and be eternally grateful for, is his heart of gold and his relentless inner fight for me. Time and time again this enabled him to achieve things and exceed expectations beyond what I ever thought was possible” says Bubby.
Gemma Stevens on Jalapeno III at Thoresby Park International Eventing Spring Carnival 2025
Gemma Stevens had to settle for being the bridesmaid twice at the Eventing Spring Carnival 2025 when she finished second in the Grantham Cup class on Jalapeno III, who retired later in the year after a very successful career, and second on Chilli King in the other CCI4* class.
In 2025 Shane Rose and The Bandit took second place in the CCI4* at TIE and followed it up with second place at The Bandit's first CCI5* at Adelaide Equestrian Festival. Now that's good preparation!
Farewell Mr Bass
Just days after the loss of Michael Jung’s great eventing horse La Biosthetique Sam, we now hear that Laura Collett has also had to say farewell to her wonderful horse Mr Bass (Chuck).
“Last night I had to say goodbye. Thank you for all the memories, Chuck” says Laura on her social media “From being used for coaching the jockeys, to 7 Year Old Champion (Le Mondial du Lion 2015) to being the only horse to finish on dressage score at your first 5* for second place (Luhmuhlen 2018), to being the best cross country horse I’ll ever ride”
Let’s watch them on cross country one more time, taking second place at Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials in 2017
Yasmin Ingham on Rehy DJ at Houghton International Horse Trials 2018
"A decade of us, but now it’s time for our chapter to close” says Yas Ingham as she announced that Rehy DJ (Piglet) will be piloted by the current World Number 1 Young Rider Elizabeth Barratt from this year.
“I am so grateful to Piglet for being my ultimate stalwart and best buddy over the past 10 years. We have learnt together, grown together, had some incredible results and memories together. Thankyou Piglet”
In 2018 Yas and Piglet won the CCI2* Young Rider Championship at Houghton International – this is how they did it.
