Denman Horse Trials 2025 Cross Country Videos
While the southern states of Australia are hunkered down for a winter competition break, this is the perfect time of year for winter woollies to have a hit out at Denman Horse Trials, NSW.
The Hunter Valley was one of the NSW regions to be hit by floods just last month but luckily Denman missed the worst of it (not so lucky were organisers Gordon and Emma Bishop whose property nearer the coast was deluged). On the bright side however, the recent wet weather means that Denman Pony Club grounds, where the event is held this weekend (Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th June), is looking beautifully green!
Classes range from EvA50 to CCN1* with all dressage on Saturday plus showjumping for all four sections of the EvA65 and two sections of the EvA50. Everyone heads out on cross country on Sunday alongside showjumping for the four sections of EvA80, two sections of EvA95 and the Marsh Carney CCN1*.
This year there is a free cross country course (thanks to sponsorship by Belle Equestrian) for the EvA 50-80cm classes with EA eventing coach, course designer and 4* rider Sandy Lucas – a great chance for less experienced riders to get tips on riding the course and ask any questions.
There a are a few riders we’ve spotted on the entry list that may not need too much advice; one is triple 5* winner Hazel Shannon, heading to her local event with some baby horses including the homebred Chuck, who we met at Canberra International Horse Trials a few months ago, in the 80cm. Hazel is also riding Callisto, who has the honour of wearing the number one bib in the EvA65 and will be one of the first into the dressage arenas bright and early on Saturday morning at the mare’s first ever competition.
Check back each day for updates and we’ll see you there!
