It was an ‘Xtremely’ good start for Will Enzinger in the dressage at the Hanson Tonimbuk International Horse Trials on Saturday

Just days after starting his new job as Australia’s High Performance Director, Will is leading by example, finishing on top of the leader board after Saturday’s dressage phase in both the VRW CCI4*-S and the Charlie’s Stockfeed CCI2*-S at Tonimbuk in Victoria

Will topped the CCI4*-S dressage results riding the 11-year-old gelding Cairo Xtreme. The pair led on a score of 35.1 with Kirilee Hosier riding AEA Flynn, close behind on 35.7 and David Middleton riding WEC In The Money (38.4) with the show jumping phase yet to take place in the Tonimbuk indoor arena on Saturday evening before Sunday’s cross country (Update: A clear round saw Will stay on top)

In the CCI2*-S, Will riding Epic Xtreme (both horses owned by Yvonne Barrow) leads after dressage, with the show jumping phase to come first thing on Sunday morning. One of the last dressage tests of the day, Will and Epic Xtreme scored 25.5 to pip the early leader, the in-form Sophia Hill riding Tulara Baltango (30.2) and Hannah Klep riding Spot On, very close behind her on 30.3 in third place

Lily Wickenden riding Fuerst Sensation at Tonimbuk Horse Trials 2023 | An Eventful Life

Lily Wickenden and Fuerst Sensation

Lily Wickenden riding Fuerst Sensation held onto the top spot in the Horseland Narre Warren CCI3*, leading after the dressage and adding just 0.4 time penalties in the late afternoon show jumping to head into tomorrow’s show jumping on a score of 32.0.

Lily was also in second place riding EA Berlin and Andy Daines riding Dom Perignon MVH held third after the dressage but both dropped a rail in the indoor show jumping phase, allowing Chelsea Priestly riding Southern Sandro Stern to move up to second (34.8) and Molly Lines riding Tadpole now in third (36) thanks to one of only five double clear rounds in the class

Last year Chelsea led the CCI2* class here on Southern Sandro Stern but an encounter on cross country with a kangaroo took Southern Sandro Stern by surprise and cost them dearly.

Hopefully, he has become more used to the bouncy creatures on Tonimbuk’s wooded course and will take any he comes across in his stride tomorrow
