Tonimbuk International Horse Trials 2026 preview

The 4Cyte & Heidelberg Materials Tonimbuk International Horse Trials 2026 will kick off the Australian international eventing season in Victoria this week from 6th – 8th March. The Tonimbuk Equestrian Centre will host classes from EvA80 to CCN1* at national level with the CCI2*, CCI3* and CCI4* short format classes attracting some top riders and horses commencing their season campaign.

Sophia Hill has done a very quick turnaround from finishing on the podium at the Grand Prix Eventing in Aiken, USA to ride Tulara Baltango in the VRW Civil CCI4* and she will be up against last year’s winners, Sam Jeffree and Santoro plus Sam’s 2025 Adelaide third placegetter Wimborne Conjuror. 

The 2024 Adelaide 5* winner, David Middleton will be riding WEC In The Breeze, Sam Cesnik also brings her 5* mare Graftango and Yona Lloyd is riding Ballahowe Ayurvedic who finished in the top 10 at Adelaide 5* last year. 

The event starts on Friday with dressage for some of the EvA80 and EvA95 competitors followed by all remaining dressage on Saturday and showjumping for the CCI3* and CCI4* in the Indoor Arena in the early eventing. Sunday is cross country day when all competitors take to the courses designed by Ewan Kellett and Mick Pineo.
