Nat Blundell and JJ Flash have claimed the Mitavite CCN2*-S at Wagga at Narrandera CCN One Day Event (8th & 9th August) after a soggy day on cross country at the Narrandera Pony Club, NSW. Nat and her 12-year-old chestnut gelding led the way after Saturday’s dressage (in much finer conditions!) but 12 faults in the showjumping dropped them down to second place behind Courtney Fraser riding the appropriately named November Raine (maybe that should be August Raine)
However, Nat’s experience shone through on the wet cross country, coming home with two time penalties to take the win on a final score of 41.1. It was a close thing with Georgina Mutton riding Billagall Foxtrot, an off the track thoroughbred who found the conditions very easy, coming home with just 1.6 time penalties to move up to second place (41.4) and Georgina having to settle for third (45.1) after adding 14 time penalties on cross country.
Nat also took third place in the Matavia Performance Horses CCN1*-S on board Chilli Mist, with this class won by Laura Wallace riding Alhambra Calligraphy.
Another past 5* rider (indeed a contemporary of Andrew Hoy and very nearly a Burghley winner!), Merran Wallis who is still going strong claimed the Horseland Wagga Wagga EvA95A riding Arthella Moonlight, ahead of dressage leader Niki Rose on the very good-looking Curious George (who won the EvA95 at Tamworth CCN recently with Shane in the saddle) while three Junior riders topped the Junee Prime Lamb EvA95B with Safiya Jordan riding Tarburra Black Jaguar taking the win.
