If you need an antidote to the gloom of war in the Ukraine and (slightly less dramatic except to eventers) the cancellation of events due to massive rainfall in Australia, then look no further than watching Pony Club winners’ videos to gladden the heart

Not only did Montanna Roberts wear the Number 1 bib at but she also finished first in the top Pony Club class at last week’s Gisborne Pony Club Horse Trials

Montanna and Chatswood Delago won the Pony Club Grade 2, moving up from third place after the dressage thanks to the only clear show jumping round and just two time penalties on cross country

Mirri Lang and the gorgeous coloured horse Another Billion (aptly named, I’m sure most pony club parents would agree!) claimed the Pony Club Grade 3, having led from go to whoa and finishing on their dressage score of 23.4 while Chloe O’Rourke riding Spirit took the Pony Club Grade 4

Jeyda Gunes’ little chestnut pony Shar certainly knows how to throw in a little spook, but this didn’t seem to deter Jeyda on cross country in the least.

They were neck and neck with Kathryn Bartlett riding Lucy throughout the Pony Club Grade 5 competition, with both finishing on a very good score of 17.4 but Jeyda took the win thanks to being closer to optimum time

And in the Pony Club Grade 6, Tyler Gamble and Bordershow Emirates trotted and chatted their way around the course to produce the second fastest cross country round of the class (dressage leaders Holly Williams riding Hollie were the only ones to make the time but racked up a few penalties in the show jumping) to take the win on 24.6
