Winning Weimann at Tonimbuk

Katja Weimann and BP Escapade, CIC2* winners

The lovely people at Harcourt’s Drouin are very popular at Tonimbuk Horse Trials, having not only sponsored the new water complex (The Harcourts Splash) but also as sponsors of the CIC2* which was won by local rider Katja Weimann on BP Escapade.

Katja and BP Escapade were second after the dressage on 50.8 behind Meg Bishop and her chestnut Sovereign Venture who scored a very good 43.8 with a raft of 8’s from the judges, Bev Shandley and Peter Shaw. Unfortunately Meg was eliminated in the indoor showjumping later that evening while Katja jumped one of the only two clear show jumping rounds in this class and then went on jump clear but with 18.8 time penalties on the new CIC2* cross country course created by Ewan Kellett.

“I thought I was going fast!” says Katja in our interview below but time penalties were the order of the day on this cross country course

Although based in nearby Upper Beaconsfield, Katja will be heading overseas with her two top horses BP Cosmopolitan and BP Flamboyant to compete at Luhmuhlen CCI4* and then spend some time in the UK if all goes well.

BP Cosmopolitan competed in the Lowe Farms CIC3* at Tonimbuk, producing a lovely dressage test with just a small blip in the counter canter costing them some marks but still in second place after the dressage and finishing in fourth place overall while BP Maximus finished sixth in the Pakenham Produce CIC1*

Watch some of Katja’s 3* dressage on BP Flamboyant and BP Escapade over the new fences 5AB in the CIC2* in the video below

Time penalties proved very influential in the CIC2* class, not just on the cross country but even in the show jumping phase on Saturday night.  Only Katja and Andrew Cooper produced double clear rounds and, although Nina Clarke and Luke Jones jumped clear, they added time penalties in this phase, as did many others.

Nina and LP Boudin head to Wandin this weekend after a good result at Tonimbuk

However Nina and LP Boudin did produce one of the fastest rounds on cross country to finish in second place while Luke made his trip worthwhile from South Australia with third place.

Luke only had one of his thoroughbreds with him as Proclaimer is recovering from a heart condition that was discovered during the Australian International 3 Day Event; luckily the treatment seems to have worked well and Proclaimer will be re-joining his stable mate at competitions soon
