Australian Eventing - Seriously? Snow?

Olivia Barton and APH Sudoku, CCI2*-L winners at Queensland International 3 Day Event

Last week we were feeling a little hopeful that weather conditions in Australia would improve enough for some more competition to take place in November and December, but we were not counting on even more freakish weather, including snow.

To add insult to injury, an icy polar blast is making its way across south-eastern Australia dropping snow in unusual places and, although Quirindi, NSW may not be experiencing the white stuff, it certainly had too much rain overnight on 1st November to consider running the planned international competition on 19th & 20th November.

Quirindi Eventing was one of those not too badly affected by the previous week’s downpours (which made the Queensland International 3 Day Event a rather damp affair) and they started work on the grounds and course with great optimism, deciding to run a Hunter Trials (Cross-country and Show Jumping) instead of the full competition but that too is sadly cancelled.

So now we keep our fingers crossed for Wallaby Hill in December …..

A good year for Kenya Wilson and Sandro Star

The good news is that there was plenty of activity on the other side of the country, with Brigadoon Pryde’s EasiFeed International taking place near Perth, Western Australia

The recent CCI4* winners at the Swan River Moto Trek Capel, Sonja Johnson and Parkiarrup Showtime, had to settle for second place last weekend with Kenya Wilson riding Sandros Salute taking the win, adding just 2.4 time in the show jumping to their dressage score to finish on 36.3, over 10 penalties ahead of Sonja

This follows on from Kenya and Sandros Salute’s win in the CCI4*-L at Brigadoon and fifth place in the CCI4*-L at the Melbourne International 3 Day Event in June against strong competition from around Australia (with three of the five riders placed ahead of her competing at the World Championships in Pratoni later in the year)

Will Baxter riding Kdale Miss Emma while Sonja Johnson still got to take a rug home, winning the CCI2*-S on board Silver Promise
