The forecast was for possible showers, but Adelaide turned on the sunshine and produced a sparkling blue sky for the first day of the 2019 Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event
46 riders presented their CCI3*-L horses in front of the Ground Jury of Sue Baxter (GBR), Helen Christie (NZL) and Robert Stevenson (USA) and all passed although three combinations, Kenya Wilson and Sandros Salute, Mia Mercuri and ESB Irish Nymph and Teegan Ashby’s Waitangi Password were held before being accepted
In the CCI5*-L, New Zealand’s Diane Gilder and Jess Grosmann’s Belmont Backstage were asked to represent but were then immediately passed
The judges couldn’t decide between Victoria’s Sophie Fox, competing as a Young Rider in the CCI3*-L with Mr Pig, and Western Australia’s Will Baxter for the Best Dressed in this class so they shared the honour while Tanya Schmidt, presenting Laurentino in a very Melbourne Cup-style outfit, won the CCI5*-L Best Dressed
Madison Simpson will be the first rider into the dressage arena in the morning riding Fairbanks Casino at 8:30am
