After several days of competition in Adelaide at the Australian International 3 Day Event a very familiar name was at the top of the leader board in both the CCI2* and CIC3* at the Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event.

Shane Rose was lying in third place after the cross country in the CCI2* on board his young Holsteiner mare that he found in Germany but a clear round put the pressure on Emma Mason riding Aramatai Fox and the leader after cross country, Sam Jeffree on Jaybee Calypso.

      Emma Mason and Aramatai Fox

Emma had just one rail down, dropping her to third place and Sam had a not unexpected but difficult show jumping round, incurring 44 faults and sending him all the way down to 23rd place. There were ooh’s and aah’s from the crowd as the rails fell but Sam was prepared for what may happen and took the result in his stride

“I came here for the overall learning experience of a big event and to do the best we could in the first two phases. The show jumping was always likely to be difficult but we decided that, whatever happened in there today, I would benefit from being here even though it’s a tough final day! I’m going home with the memory of cross country round in my head and that’s such a positive thing to take away – I know I’ve learned a lot in the past few days and I’ve got young horses coming up that will be helped by what I take away from here. I’m really looking forward to coming back again!”

      Stuart Tinney and Leporis

It was another horse imported from Germany that took second place with a clear round with another very experienced jockey on board, Stuart Tinney. Stuart’s seven year old Leporis jumped a lovely round in the big atmosphere to move up from seventh place after cross country and this is another young horse with a big future

Niki Rose and Glenorchy South Park

In fourth place was another Rose, this time Shane’s wife Niki who ‘can’t remember when I last competed here!’ Riding the 13 year old thoroughbred Glenorchy South Park, Niki had just one rail down to not only take fourth place but also the Off The Track Racing SA prize for the best placed past racehorse

Victoria’s Sophia Landy won the Australian Young Rider title which was contested as part of the CCI2* - more to come about Sophia and her off the track horse Humble Glory coming up soon
