Eventing at Equestriad at Camden in NSW, Australia was a scorcher today.

With temperatures in the high 30’s jackets were abandoned (although some hardy souls still wore their tailcoats for dressage) and although hard hats were well and truly on, it was hats off to everybody that competed, officiated and supported in stifling heat

The event, one of few to run in NSW or Victoria after months of lockdown, is hosting classes from EvA60 up to CCN4*-S and, after today’s dressage, it was Heath Ryan on board Bronze Boy R who led the way in the top class with a score of 29.60 ahead of 4* debutant Go Tosca ridden by Andrew Barnett (33.30) and Gemma Tinney riding Diabolo in third (32.30)

But Gemma came up trumps in the show jumping ring a few hours later, jumping clear with just 0.4 time penalties to take the lead. Andrew and Go Tosca had two time penalties to move into second place and Heath slipped to third place with one rail and two time faults around a track that caused plenty of problems

Emma Bishop and CP Issey Miyake led the CCN3*-S on a score of 28 ahead of Gemma Tinney riding Be My Daisy (31.90) and Emma again in third place, this time riding Cassilis Park Figaro (32.70) but again the show jumping re-arranged the leader board.

This time it was Shane Rose and Matrix, fourth after the dressage, who stayed on their score of 34.4 to move into the top spot, with Sam Fasher’s Angelina Gold and Catherine Herbert’s little stallion Wimborne Constable also jumping clear for second and third places at the end of the day

Jess Somerfield and Finch Farm Carpenteria lead the CCN2*-S and Mollie Kennedy riding Lavender Rise Ferghus lead the CCN1*-S

Check back tomorrow for a quick wrap up and our full report next week
