New Zealand’s US-based Monica Spencer has had a very good year in 2025, finishing strongly on several leaderboards.

Her first 5* podium finish, taking second place at MARS Maryland at Fair Hill in October riding Artist and fourth place in the CCI3*-L at TerraNova (Fl.) on board her young horse Flyboy, helped move her into the top 20 of the FEI Eventing World Rankings at the end of November to finish the year in 19th place.

Monica also finished fourth on the United States Eventing Association (USEA) Rider Leaderboard, which was topped by Boyd Martin with a massive 510 points head of Will Coleman (277), Tamie Smith (254) and Monica finishing on 242 points. Her top horse, the 14-year-old thoroughbred Artist, also finished third on the USEA Horse Leaderboard behind two Boyd Martin rides, Commando 3 and Cooley Nutcracker.

In July, Monica and Artist were part of the New Zealand team that took team gold at CHIO Aachen, venue for the 2026 FEI World Equestrian Games and in December was named as one of just three combinations on the updated New Zealand Eventing High Performance Squad
