Nicolle Harley and Go For Gold

Nicolle Harley and Go For Gold at Ballarat Hickstead

Fate handed Nicolle Harley a young palomino horse, now named Go For Gold, nearly two years ago

It was an emotional time for Nicolle who had just lost her own horse in a paddock accident and it took a few weeks before she went looking for the horse she had been told about who desperately needed a new home. Despite the fact that ‘in the wrong hands he could have hurt someone’ at that stage, Nicolle took him home and started a long-term project to rehabilitate him

It wasn’t easy gaining the trust of the now 17h palomino and Nicolle ended up on the floor plenty of times but at the Ballarat Hickstead last weekend the pair moved up to EvA105 and finished in second place

Go For Gold (named partly for his colour and partly because he came close to going for dog meat) is now a settled, happy horse who is loving his new career with Nicolle. We may even see the horse that very nearly lost his life compete in the future at the Melbourne International 3 Day Event or maybe even Adelaide – we certainly hope so ....
