One of the four chestnuts, Shane and Outside the Line were second in the EvA105B

Shane Rose has a thing about chestnuts at the moment, mainly because he has a few of them in his stable. At the Randwick Equine Sydney Summer Classic last weekend he was competing several nice young horses but he admits he may have to part with a few of them to fund his overseas trips this year

Shane flies out from Australia on March 15th to re-join his top horses in the UK who are being looked after by Sam Griffiths in Shane’s absence “Hopefully he is at home studiously riding them” says Shane with a grin

His first competition is at Aldon in Somerset (and I was wrong, we’ll be filming at Aldon later in the year – we’ll be at Aston-Le-Walls for our first video event of the season) and then he heads north to Belton International. This is a major CIC pre-Badminton run for many riders which last year was won by another Australian, Chris Burton and Shane will be taking Shanghai Joe and Virgil for a run around the great course – you can watch videos from last year’s event here

Shane then heads home to help out at the event he has built to be the biggest in Australia – Equestriad at Camden which this year will host the Australian National Eventing Championships. Before long he is back on a plane to the UK to prepare for Badminton – it’s going to be an exciting year!
