A new ride for Chris Burton

Australian eventing rider Chris Burton has plenty of equine talent in his UK based stable and he is adding to it with a new ride from the USA in 2018

Chris Burton has picked up the ride Betawave (Leta), a 2009 Holsteiner Mare previously ridden by Robyn Fisher. Betawave has been ridden by Robyn care since 2012 and, since that time, the duo has successfully competed through the Advanced level.

While Robyn loves producing horses to the top levels of the sport, she also equally enjoys watching horses she has brought through the levels compete on the international stage to reach the full potential of their careers.

“I feel very lucky to have been Leta’s partner to this point in her career, and I am incredibly excited to watch her continue her education with Chris,” said Robyn

After meeting Burton at Mondial du Lion and, being impressed with his horsemanship,

professionalism and kindness, Robyn felt that Chris and his wife Bek would be a good match for the next step of Betawave’s career. Co-owner Carol Singh was also enthusiastic of the opportunity to see her horse represent Australia with such a talented rider

“Robyn has done such an incredible job with our mare so far, already surpassing dreams I had for her when I bred her. Chris riding her is like icing on the cake for me, and I could not be more excited to see where they go together!”

Robyn recently travelled alongside Betawave to the Burton’s base in the UK to assure the combination would be a good fit, and she was very impressed with all elements of his program.

"Chris rides every horse in his barn himself every day and loves his horses very much. He is a kind and patient rider with an equally amazing team, who I know will provide impeccable care of Leta.”

After riding the mare out of Linaro, Chris said, “I truly can’t believe my luck, it isn’t every day you get offered the ride on a nice 3* horse. When Robyn sent the videos of Betawave I thought she looked like a super jumper and lovely horse. Since landing in the UK she has turned out to be more special than I thought. It is a very exciting opportunity for me, and I only hope I can do the mare justice in the upcoming 2018 season."

Chris plans to do a few Intermediates with Betawave so the two can get to know each other, and if all goes well, they will aim to do a CIC3* and CCI3* in the first part of the year.
