Prue Barrett and Stuart Tinney are two of the finalists in the 2016 NSW Sports Awards.

Prue Barrett’s year in 2016 as Equestrian Australia’s National Performance Director for Eventing was a good one. It included the Australian team win in the FEI Nations Cup in Aachen, team bronze at the Rio Olympic Games and Australia narrowly missed out on an individual medal in Rio with Sam Griffiths finishing just off the podium in fourth place. Prue is nominated for the Coach of the Year award

Sydney 2000 Olympic gold medallist Stuart Tinney, who added a team bronze medal in Rio, is also nominated in the Athlete of the Year category and Equestrian NSW is nominated in the Organisation of the Year category.

They are up against strong opposition from an Olympic year with Australian men’s cricket captain Steve Smith, four-time Paralympic gold medal winning swimmer Maddison Elliott, Olympic silver and bronze medal winning canoeist Jessica Fox and Rio Olympic gold medal winning sailor Tom Burton among the big names vying for the top awards to be announced on Thursday 23 February 2017.
