Great expectations for Jock Paget at Puhinui

While Jock Paget’s wife Tegan is awaiting their first baby Jock was busy today at Puhinui International 3 Day Event, finishing the day in second place of the Honda NZ CCI3* after dressage.

The baby is a few days overdue so Jock is hoping that the baby doesn’t arrive in the next two days as he will have to hurry to his wife’s side!

"I can always come and compete here again next year but having a baby isn't going to happen that often!"

Jock’s top horse Angus Blue is still settling in to the Southern Hemisphere after winning the Melbourne International 3 Day Event in June but Heelan Tompkins’ Snow Leopard is a good up and coming replacement this weekend

"We don't really have any definite plans - we're just seeing how things go" says Jock of the 10 year old thoroughbred "We weren't sure we were coming here until he went so well at Rotorua (winning the 2.5* there)"

Jock and Snow Leopard were in the lead for most of the class with a score of 47.7 but Emily Cammock and Shaw Lee, the final combination into the arena, slid just ahead on 47.6 to take the overnight lead heading into tomorrow’s cross country - more to come from Emily in our wrap-up article

We talked to Jock about his dressage test today and his thoughts on the course, designed by one of his favourite designers Tich Massey. It is a challenging and beautifully built course on the Puhinui Reserve which overlooks the Manukau Harbour, giving riders and spectators alike a stunning view
