“Sadly the day has come... yesterday Lenamore was put to sleep at the age of 31” says New Zealand’s Caroline Powell

The little horse Lenamore punched well above his size, amassing more British eventing points than any other horse when he was officially retired in 2013

Caroline made her New Zealand team debut with Lenamore at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen and they were also selected for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing (Hong Kong).

But it was at the London 2012 Olympic Games where they took home a medal, winning bronze as part of the New Zealand team alongside Jock Paget, Sir Mark Todd and Andrew Nicholson

Lenamore’s performance at CCI5* level was exceptional, completing Burghley Horse Trials five times and taking the title in 2010. His record at Badminton Horse Trials was also impressive with seven completions, each time finishing in the top 12

His owner Lexi Jackson and Caroline made the decision to retire Lenamore following his Olympic medal-winning performance at London but his bouncy performances on cross country have long been fondly remembered

“What a character , what a journey, what an honour” says Caroline on her social media “A huge thank you to Jane and Lexi for entrusting Ed to me and for the amazing journey he took us on”

We have a full At Home interview with Caroline coming up soon but here is a little snippet of what she had to say about Lenamore
