It seems appropriate at a time when Olympic fever is high (even in a Covid-19 postponement atmosphere), that entries for the 2020 Sydney @ SIEC Randwick Equine Centre Spring Classic open today

SIEC of course stands for the Sydney International Equestrian Centre, the equestrian venue for the equestrian disciplines at Sydney 2000 where Australia won team gold in eventing and it will host the Spring Classic from 4th – 6th September 2020

It has been a long haul for this event to take place this year; originally scheduled for February (as the Summer Classic!), it was postponed due to bushfires and moved to July when it was stopped again due to Covid-19. Fingers crossed, it will now go ahead, and no doubt NSW based eventers will be champing at the bit for some action although Victorian and Queensland based combinations who would normally attend will be prevented due to border closures

Despite that, there is little doubt that classes will be jam packed with riders to keen to get a run, including Interschools competitors as the NSW State Interschool Championship will also run as part of the event

Traditionally Australian events tend not to be run as One Day Events, even at the lower levels, but the Spring Classic will see three days of true ODE’s with each level completing all three phases and the CCN Star classes taking place on Saturday. Classes from EvA60 to CCN4* will be run during the three days

“For this event to be a success during these COVID times we will need the support of volunteers to make it all happen” says the event “ Please consider offering a few hours of your time or your support person’s time to help run our sport that we all dearly love” and a new online Volunteer system is being used to help make that happen at Sign Up

The Randwick Equine Centre Spring Classic was not the only NSW event with entries opening today with Quirindi Eventing also opening for their National One Day from 21st – 23rd August. They too are offering EvA60 up to CCN4* with a long format CCN3* and CCN2* enabling riders to gain MERs for Wallaby Hill CCI later in the year
